BIG THANKS TO DONORS:
Sri Lanka Fund Donations Exceed $200,000

By Cynthia Edirisuriya

The Sri Lanka Fund is pleased to announce that within a short period of time it has raised over $200,000, which will be used to relieve the devastation caused by the tsunami. The non-profit organization has been seeking donations to begin the development of a residential community, consisting of one hundred homes and an orphanage, within the vicinity of Galle.

The Sri Lanka Fund seeks to raise half a million dollars, which is the amount required to complete the project. Yet, thus far, the organization feels accomplished because in only a matter of weeks, it has received donations that sum up to a little less than half of its target amount. From all the donations, 100% of it is directed toward the development of the project. The Sri Lanka Fund does not have any administrative costs.

The four organizers of the Sri Lanka Fund, Ven. Aluthnuwara Sumanatissa, Sanjiv Gunasekara, Bernard Pieris and Raja Edirisuriya, are very grateful to all the companies and people who have donated to this charitable cause.

Edirisuriya asserted, “My interactions with the donors has made me realize that there are many kind, warm-hearted philanthropists in our Sri Lankan community and in big corporations such as Metric Products and Pinnacle Communities.”

The organizers greatly appreciate all the contributions. They know that the contributors will be satisfied with the progress and the final results of the project.

The donators are not the only ones contributing to this worthy cause; the organizers themselves have chosen to sacrifice their daily priorities in order to make this project a success. Presently, two of the organizers, Ven. Sumanatissa and Gunasekara, are in Sri Lanka, in the process of accepting land from the government. This land will be reserved until the Sri Lanka Fund is prepared for the development of the homes and orphanage.

Edirisuriya will be going to Sri Lanka on February 28 before Ven. Sumanatissa and Gunasekara leave. Upon Edirisuriya’s arrival, they will hand over all the business matters and affairs for Edirisuriya to settle

With the time and devotion of the organizers, it is guaranteed that all arrangements to build this project will be made as soon as possible. While in Sri Lanka, the organizers will also be conversing with architects and contractors so the project may be on its way in a little matter of time.

If you would like to learn more about the Sri Lanka Fund and its development plan, you can visit the Sri Lanka Fund website at www.srilankafund.org. The website explains the details behind the project, lists the names of the donors, and gives people the opportunity to contribute to the fund via the internet. All contributions are graciously accepted, so please do not hesitate to become part of this worthy cause.
