Girl Scout Troop Donated School Supplies
that Brought Many Smiles

Junior Girl Scout Troop #1257 and Brownie Troop #1201 of Carden Arbor View, in Upland, California, donated over a hundred pounds of school supplies. The goods collected by the troop included: rulers, notebooks, markers, pens, pencils, crayons and erasers.

The girl scouts devoted a great amount of time and put much effort into this benevolent project. They placed boxes all around their school with colorful signs that read, "Please be kind and donate to the people suffering from the tsunami. Please donate pencils, pens and more school supplies."

All the goods were distributed at the Induruwa site, built by the Sri Lanka Fund, in early July. The children of these newly built homes graciously accepted the gifts with wide smiles on their faces.

"I was surprised to see how happy the kids were to get the school supplies. I do not think many of them have even seen crayons or erasers before." Said Chelsea Edirisuriya, a past student of Carden Arbor View. Edirisuriya assisted to hand out the goods
The children ranged from age one to age eighteen. Over fifty children eagerly waited in line to receive the donated items. The parents of the children stood near by and were extremely thankful to all involved in this act of philanthropy.

After receiving the supplies, one child was heard saying, "I will never forget this day."
