Self Help Model Community
for Sri Lanka’s (tsunami affected) South

OBJECTIVE:

We intend to build a self help community with approximately 40 houses and an Home for the Age which would consist of between 80 – 100 bed facility with Recreational area, shrine room, dinning hall, common / meeting rooms etc to who have been directly affected by the tsunami.

LOCATION:

The organizers have been in Sri Lanka for over 4 weeks and scouted out many properties out of which they chose a 3 acre property which was handed over by the Govt. of Sri Lanka to the Sri Lanka Fund to commence construction. This property which is only 100 meters from some of the damaged houses (minimal re-location burden) and also the close proximity to the main road were some of the key elements the organizers considered when selecting the land from the government.

The organizers have been promised a 2 acre plot of land to consider the second project, which is to build a Home for the Elderly who have been affected by the Tsunami. This property which is situated in a suburb of the capital of Colombo (Kotte) is considered ideal because of the facilities and the medical care that are at proximity for the elderly.

We have created a non profit corporation in Sri Lanka. The Government of Sri Lanka has transferred authority of the land to the trustees and the fund that have been appointed by the U.S. non profit organization.
